Meet EDL leadership
Joanna serves as the Director of Instructional Design & Quality Assurance on the Digital Learning team at EdPlus, where she leads efforts to ensure high standards in course development, instructional quality, and curriculum alignment. With a strong background in K–12 and higher education, Joanna brings over two decades of experience in teaching, academic leadership, and program design. Prior to joining EdPlus, she held leadership roles, including Director of Urban Education and Director of Academic Programs, where she focused on curriculum innovation, program development, and instructional excellence. Joanna holds a doctorate in Organizational Leadership and a graduate degree in Teaching, with her academic journey beginning at Arizona State University.
In her role on the Digital Learning team at EdPlus, Joanna supports cross-functional teams in advancing quality assurance processes and promoting best practices in digital learning. Her leadership contributes to the mission of delivering transformative, student-centered online education at scale.
As an Assistant Director of Instructional Design for the EdPlus Digital Learning team at Arizona State University, Lauren collaborates closely with EdPlus colleagues, ASU faculty and the broader university to design and deliver engaging, high-quality courses. She is deeply committed to student success and is especially passionate about initiatives that expand educational access for at-risk populations.
Throughout her tenure at EdPlus, Lauren has played a pivotal role in advancing initiatives aimed at increasing access to higher education. She has served in various capacities, including instructional designer, project manager and senior project manager, contributing to key programs such as the Global Freshman Academy, Earned Admission, the Master of Computer Science on Coursera, Thunderbird Global Business Leadership & Management MicroMasters, the Master of Sciences in Supply Chain Management on edX, and the Study Hall program.
Currently, Lauren provides strategic oversight for instructional design initiatives for ASU Online programs. Her Project Management Professional (PMP) certification has been instrumental in helping the team launch and scale innovative programs that push the boundaries of digital learning.
As the Associate Director of the Technology Innovations Learning Team, Lissa Frésquez leads a team that oversees the exploration, implementation, and management of educational technologies. She collaborates closely with Enterprise Technology and the Office of the Provost to enhance the digital learning experience for ASU students.
With over 30 years in education, Lissa brings a wealth of experience across diverse fields. Her career includes more than a decade of classroom instruction and another decade dedicated to technology integration through library services. Lissa empowers educators to seamlessly incorporate technology into their teaching, model effective use of cutting-edge tools in various learning environments, and create engaging, technology-enhanced learning experiences.
As an Assistant Director of Instructional Design at EdPlus, Margaret leads global education initiatives designed to expand ASU's mission to foster access, equity, and inclusivity in higher education partners, and ASU faculty across the US, China, and Taiwan, builds ASU Zai Xian, the first of its kind graduate degree programs delivered in Mandarin to students in China to remove language barriers for education access.
Maggie is passionate about building inclusive pedagogical practices that improve access and success for all students and is inspired by initiatives that serve social impact. Maggie is completing her Doctor for Education (EdD) degree in Leadership and Innovation at Arizona State University.
With over 10 years at Arizona State University, Maria is dedicated to enhancing the student experience through innovative curriculum and course design. Maria is a strategic collaborator and connector who supports new program launches, working between instructional teams, product and technology developers, and academic units. Maria's work is characterized by a strong dedication to building high-quality academic experiences and a commitment to student-centered design.
As the Manager of Professional Development and Training, Mary Loder leads the professional development and training initiatives, collaborating with the talented and experienced EdPlus Digital Learning team to create dynamic, publicly available webinars and resources to support the global digital learning community. Mary works in partnership with Enterprise Technology and the Office of the Provost to ensure continuous growth and excellence in instructional design and delivery.

Matthew Robinson brings 15 years of experience at ASU to the EdPlus team, including instructional design and higher education media production knowledge. Matthew attended ASU and received his BA in Journalism and an MA in Film Studies. Currently, he works for EdPlus as the Director of Academic Media. The Academic Media team collaborates with faculty, building relationships to facilitate transformative instructional media production experiences to collectively create high-quality, innovative, efficient, and effective educational media. Matthew is a lifelong SunDevil who has consistently worked at the forefront of ASU's innovative approaches to online education.
Michael Arsenault is the Manager of Learning Technology Implementation at EdPlus, where he leads the integration and deployment of cutting-edge educational technologies as a part of the EdPlus Digital Learning team. As an expert in the full suite of ed tech tools offered by the team, Michael ensures that the technologies align with pedagogical goals and enhance the learning experiences for students and faculty. His extensive knowledge and hands-on approach to technology implementation make him an invaluable asset, as he continuously works to optimize digital learning environments and support the evolving needs of our diverse academic community.
Michael started his journey with ASU as an online student through the partnership with the Starbucks College Achievement Plan. After graduating with his B.A. in English, he joined EdPlus at ASU as a Success Coach and later a training manager, supporting the next generation of Starbucks learners in their academic journey. Upon completion of his M.Ed. in educational technology and his graduate certificate in rhetoric, writing, and digital media studies, Michael moved into an Academic Success & Retention Specialist role at EdPlus where he supported the redesign of the highest-enrolling online courses using a systems design approach rooted in data-informed decisions and information-sharing with various ASU departments to apply wraparound supports for students. In his current role as Instructional Design Manager, Michael leads a team of instructional designers to develop online courses for programs across ASU while also spearheading strategic course redesign and AI exploration and implementation.
As Project Manager for EdPlus Digital Learning, Rockell helps bring structure to complexity—driving progress on high-impact projects through strategic planning, prioritization, and collaboration. A Certified Scrum Master and Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt, Rockell supports cross-functional teams in aligning goals, improving processes, and delivering learner-centered solutions at scale. With a strong background in operations and agile project management, Rockell is a go-to resource for project scoping, strategic planning, execution, and navigating how to engage with the EdPlus Digital Learning team.
Wayne has led transformational projects within EdPlus, Arizona State University. During his tenure, he has helped architect emerging educational models, including pathway programs for learners at various developmental stages, personalized education solutions, new educational benefit models for companies like Uber, blended learning with Mayo Medical School, high school curriculum with ASU Digital Preparatory School, informal learning on YouTube with the Hank and John Green and unique programs on Coursera and EdX. Recently he has contributed to Google DeepMind’s development of LearnLM, a pedagogically tuned version of Gemini LLM. Curiosity, collaboration, and outcomes drive Wayne’s approach to steer projects from concept to reality, with an acute understanding of opportunity and business impact.
